Special Arrangement
- An engineer and attorney, Steven P. Nicholsis the Director of the Murchison Chair of Free Enterprise at the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Previously, he was Associate Vice President of Research for UT where he was responsible for technology commercialization.
His teaching interests include entrepreneurship, technology innovation and creativity, design and professional responsibility. His innovative and creative approach to engineering design was recognized with the Fred Merryfield Design Award. Dr. Nichols has published numerous articles and organized many conferences concerning the intersection of engineering and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Nichols also has been an entrepreneur, founding an engineering consulting firm that included the U.S. Department of Energy as a client. His legal experience involves litigation in product liability and intellectual property.
Dr. Nichols earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and his J.D. at The University of Texas at Austin.
- Paul Baffes has been working as a hands-on innovator since 1986. A successful entrepreneur who started his own company, and an accomplished inventor, Dr. Baffes received the Inventor of the Year Award in 1995 from the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA). He recently served on the U.S. National Innovation Initiative and is the author of a newly published book, Reinventing Invention.
